Hi-Tec Synplus ACEA C4 5W/30 is a stable, stay-in-grade catalyst compatible oil intended for use at extended drain intervals in car and light van diesel engines. These engines will be designed to be capable of using this low friction, low viscosity oil with a High Temperature / High Shear Rate (HTHS) viscosity of 3.5 mPa.s minimum.
Hi-Tec Synplus ACEA C4 5W/30 meets the 2010 edition of the ACEA specifications in that it has increased sludge handling performance to further increase the long drain capabilities of this oil, as well as extending the life of the exhaust system’s diesel particulate filters and three-way filters.
Hi-Tec Synplus ACEA C4 5W/30 is designed for passenger car and light van diesel engines using fuel with a maximum 0.05% sulphur content. As well as its advanced engine detergency and wear prevention performance, this lubricant has components designed to reduce the amount of soot (responsible for DPF clogging) and other waste constituents that may impede catalyst performance.
Today’s environmentally conscious market demands reduced emissions and increased fuel efficiency. This has led to the development of new engine designs resulting in demands for higher quality lubricants.
In recent years car manufacturers have developed smaller, higher output engines to meet stricter fuel economy limits. Small engines help decrease vehicle weight and improve the economy but these engines impact lubricants through:
- Increased heat which accelerates the rate of oil oxidation, nitration and deposit formation. This degrades the oil and encourages the creation of more acid and increases viscosity.
- Increased pressure and speed which makes it harder for the oil to maintain a lubricant film to prevent metal on metal contact. This accelerates valve train wear.
- Emission Control. Most of today’s petrol engines are fitted with catalytic converters which reduce emissions of CO, NOx and unburned carbon. Catalytic converters, however, are susceptible to SAPS (Sulfated Ash, Phosphorous and Sulfur) which are present in engine oil detergents and antiwear additives and in base oils.
Hi-Tec Synplus ACEA C4 5W/30 is designed to meet these challenges to the vehicle’s lubricant system.
